THE EFFECT OF EDUCATION WITH LEAFLET MEDIA ON FIRE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS ATTITUDES OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN BENGKULU
Fire disaster preparedness is a crucial component in developing emergency response attitudes among vocational school students. Education using leaflets is considered effective in developing and enhancing responsive attitudes related to students' knowledge of fire risks, including concern for the safety of themselves and their colleagues. To determine the effect of leaflet-based education on fire disaster preparedness attitudes among vocational school students in Bengkulu. Used in this study was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest. The sample consisted of two classes selected purposively: one class as the intervention group receiving counseling with leaflets, and one class as the control group receiving conventional learning without leaflets. Preparedness attitudes were measured using an attitude scale that had been tested for validity and reliability before (pretest) and after (posttest) the intervention. Data analysis used a paired t-test for changes in each group and an independent t-test or Mann-Whitney U-test to compare increases in attitude scores between groups. showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 6.13 (SD=2.68) in the pretest to 12.87 (SD=1.542) in the posttest. The attitude category increased from 54.3% to 86.7%. There was a more significant increase in fire disaster preparedness attitudes in the intervention group compared to the control group (p <0.05) and the size showed moderate to large changes in attitudes, indicating the effectiveness of leaflets in shaping preparedness attitudes. Therefore, it can be concluded in this study that counseling with leaflet media has the potential to be an effective strategy to improve fire disaster preparedness attitudes among vocational students. The results of this study can support the integration of leaflets as part of disaster literacy programs and safety training in vocational schools.
